GYROTONIC®

Created by Juliu Horvath, GYROTONIC EXPANSION
SYSTEM®
method offers similar benefits also derived from yoga, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tai chi.
The GYROTONIC®
method addresses the entire body, opening energy pathways, stimulating the nervous system and
lymphatic system,
increasing range of motion in your joints and creating functional strength.
The exercise sequences are composed of spiraling, circular movements which flow together
seamlessly in rhythmic repetitions with corresponding breath patterns.
Each movement flows into the next allowing the joints to move through a natural range of
motion without jarring or compression. These carefully crafted sequences create balance,
efficiency, strength and flexibility.
The GYROTONIC® method utilizes
specialized equipment to guide, assist, and challenge the
customer. In particular, the
GYROTONIC®
Pulley Tower Combination Unit has weights and a pulley
system with straps that provide assistance and resistance. There is no restriction on speed
or range of motion when working with the pulley tower and it is possible to move from any angle
in proximity to the machine to stimulate the front side and back of the body with both pushing
and pulling forces.
Practicing GYROTONIC® exercises
on the machine allows for three-dimensional, functional
movement, and eliminates the sharp starts and stops where most injury occurs.
GYROKINESIS®
GYROKINESIS® exercise is the roots
and
foundation
of the
GYROTONIC EXPANSION SYSTEM®
The GYROKINESIS® method is a
practice that
involves the entire body. It increases range of motion,
stimulates the nervous system, opens energy pathways and creates functional strength through
rhythmic movement sequences. Breathing, rhythm and mental focus are key elements alongside the
movement.
The GYROKINESIS® method is practiced
on a
mat
and
chair without equipment. Without the feedback and
guidance of equipment, participants in a GYROKINESIS® class are more dependent
on
their
own proprioception to explore movement sequences.
A GYROKINESIS® beginner class starts
with
self-massage and simple breathing patterns to awaken the
body. It transitions to focus in on the spine and pelvis. Seated on low stools, the teacher
guides
the class through a series of arching, curling, bending, twisting and spiraling movements. This
is
done to mobilize and to articulate the spine.
A GYROKINESIS® class encompasses not
only
sitting
but also laying and standing positions. The
movement patterns are expanded to release the hip and knee joints and to target specific muscle
groups, such as the hamstring and quadriceps. These patterns are performed in all possible
directions.
Benefits
GYROTONIC® method articulates your
joints,
improves your posture,
builds stamina, strength and health,
restore the normal function, strength and tone of the pelvic floor muscles,
improves the flow of energy through your body,
stimulates the trigger point also used in acupuncture.
The sessions are taught one-to-one and tailored to suit the needs of every individual, from
those
using it for general fitness to professional dancers and athletes, as well as those who need a
more
therapeutic application because of injury or illness.
